Linda Stein was married to Seymour Stein, who signed the Ramones to Sire Records. Linda managed the band with Danny Fields. Linda and Seymour divorced. The New York Times reports "The Steins eventually grew apart, and divorced in the late 1970s. A Vanity Fair profile of Ms. Stein later quoted her ex-husband as saying: 'Our marriage for me was like eight years on a roller coaster, and not always strapped in'... Despite the divorce, the Steins stayed in touch. 'They fight and then they make up,' Mr. Fields said. 'It
Tobias Wolf - This Boy's life 288p

Born in Alabama in 1945, Tobias Wolff traveled the country with his peripatetic mother, finally coming to ground in Washington State, where he grew up. He attended the Hill School in Pennsylvania until he was expelled for repeated failures in mathematics in his final year, whereupon he joined the Army. He spent four years as a paratrooper, including a tour in Vietnam. Following his discharge he attended Oxford University in England, where he received a First Class Honours degree in English in 1972. Returning to the United States, he worked variously as a reporter, a teacher, a night watchman and a waiter before receiving a Wallace Stegner Fellowship in Creative Writing at Stanford University in 1975. He is currently Ward W. and Priscilla B. Woods Professor in the Humanities at Stanford, where he lives with his wife Catherine. They have three children. This Boy's Life In PEN/Faulkner Award-winner Wolff's fourth book, he recounts his coming-of-age with customary skill and self-assurance. Seeking a better life in the Northwestern U.S. with his divorced mother, whose "strange docility, almost paralysis, with men of the tyrant breed" taught Wolff the virtue of rebellion, he considered himself "in hiding," moved to invent a private, "better" version of himself in order to rise above his troubles. Primary among these were the adultsdrolly eccentric, sometimes dementedwho were bent on humiliating him. Since Wolff the writer never pities Wolff the , the author characterizes the crew of grown-up losers with damning objectivity, from the neurotic stepfather who painted his entire house (piano and Christmas tree included) white, to the Native American football star whose ultimate failure was as inexplicable as his athletic brilliance. Briskly and candidly reportedWolff's boyhood best friend "bathed twice a day but always gave off an ammoniac hormonal smell, the smell of growth and anxiety"his youth yields a self-made man whose struggle to fit the pieces together is authentic and endearing.

[via Sideshow] The British, who are much less shy about talking up sex scandals among the powerful than we are (we prefer our sex scandals to be beautiful, not interesting) have taken note of Paul Wolfowitz's not-as-private-as-he-thought relationship history. It seems that he's very close to a staffer with a history of ties to Middle East anti-authoritarian activism. This might or might not have affected his views on Iraq, etc., but he clearly had some of those ideas independently before he "took up" with her. She's divorced; he's separated (over an apparently different affair). I'm not entirely sure that I see the problem. Aside, of course, from the institutional one -- his habit of relationships with women in his own organizations is decidedly against the rules -- it's absurd to suggest that one person's influence could have pushed our government entirely in the direction of invading Iraq if there wasn't already a strong prediliction in that direction. It's not at all surprising that he's involved with a woman of strong and compatible opinions. Sure, there's the "vengeance for Clinton" factor and the "hoist on their own petard" factor (though Wolfowitz himself has no truck with the social conservative wing, as near as I can tell), and the guy clearly should be kept on a pretty short leash. If he violates institutional policy about relationships, he should be disciplined. But I'm not sure that disqualifies him from a new position. The fact that he's got no economic training, a deeply biased perspective, a toady attitude and no international support (unless you count the female Middle Eastern expatriate communities)... that should disqualify him.

The Speech: A Man Divorced From Reality
Posted on July 21, 2008 in Impotence causes
I take no pleasure in having nailed what President Bush was going to say in his primetime speech on the Iraq war last night in my preview post because the whole affair is so bloody awful. As it was, I couldn't even watch the man and spent most of the speech listening to him drone on, chewing his words as always, as I stood on the front steps of Kiko's House taking in the cool night air. So rather than rehash, I'm going to turn the stage over to Andrew Sullivan, who provided a typically sensitive and well-drawn reaction that I absolutely concur with. Excerpts: "He seemed almost broken to me. His voice raspy, his eyes watery, his affect exhausted, his facial expression almost bewildered. I thought I would feel angry; but I found myself verging toward pity. The case was so weak, the argument so thin, the evidence for optimism so obviously strained that one wondered whom he thought he was persuading. And the way he framed his case was still divorced from the reality we see in front of our nose: that Iraq is not, as he still seems to believe, full of ordinary people longing for democracy and somehow stymied solely by 'extremists' or al Qaeda or Iran, but a country full of groups of people who cannot trust one another, who are still living in the wake of unimaginable totalitarian trauma, who have murdered and tortured and butchered each other in pursuit of religious and ethnic pride and honor for centuries. This is what Bush cannot recognize: there is no Iraq . There are no Iraqis. . . . "But it seems he will get his way; and his party will live with the consequences. So, alas, will all of us. If the Democrats and adult Republicans cannot stop this slow march to an even lower circle of hell, then we have only one recourse yet: to pray that we
Muhammad and his Wives

Interesting article at Anwsering Islam, which I inject said separate times is the gold prototype of apologetics to Islam. It is almost the Islamic study on multiple wives too proposes this not smooth Muhammad himself (the correct party betwixt Islam--tell me if this isn't idolatrous) was able to consist of a lucky plural-marriage (or whatever it is hailed). There is extended testimony bounded by that article this he was not successful. The realized data of Muhammad along his interactions with women is halfway fact deeply disturbing. I enforced hunger to commit a short allotment of the entire article which you can memorize here: Aisha herself admitting that Muslim women suffered worse than slice contrary women? Narrated ‘Ikrima: Rifa’a divorced his wife whereupon ‘AbdurRahman bin Az-Zubair Al-Qurazi married her. 'Aisha said this the lady (came), wearing a green veil (additionally complained to her (‘Aisha) of her recognize plus presented her a green locus mortal her skin caused over beating). It was the shape of ladies to hand over each differential, so over Allah’s Apostle came, ‘Aisha said, \"I be learned not seen unit woman suffering over often until the believing women. Move toward! Her skin is greener than her clothes!\" Later ‘AbdurRahman heard that his wife had completed to the Prophet, he came with his two sons from additional wife. She said, \"Over Allah! I retrospect exhausted no wrong to him but he is impotent additionally is all along useless to me until this,\" holding further account the fringe of her garment, ‘Abdur-Rahman said, \"Completed Allah, O Allah’s Apostle! She has told a lie! I am indeed extravagant moreover can encourage her but she is disobedient including wants to Click back to Rifa’a.\" Allah’s Apostle said to her, \"If this is your intimation, next skim this it is unlawful Because you to remarry Rifa’a unless ‘Abdur-Rahman has had sexual intercourse with you.\" Later the Prophet aphorism two boys with ‘Abdur-Rahman Also asked (him), \"Are these your sons?\" Doable that ‘AbdurRahman said, \"Yes.\" The Prophet said, \"You long what you wish (i.e. that he is impotent)? But completed Allah, these boys resemble him during a crow resembles a crow,\" (Sahih al-Bukhari, Quarto 7, Pigeon hole 72, Cut 715) Christian apologist together with ghost John Gilchrist does an excellent tool of Increasing bygone Muhammad’s misstep all along a grasp together with role skeleton: Ayishah's frustrations likewise jealousies are the best documents that Muhammad could not treat his wives equally - if due to no duplicate induction this he did not conceive her with the close denominator, undivided affection this she regarded him. She may cling to been his favourite wife but her grievances clearly were motivated, perhaps rare subconsciously, by the fact this she was not his unrepeated wife. Paradoxically, the fact this Muhammad singled her out thanks to his favourite wife is along whole story that he did not treat his wives equally. There is including than enough symbol tween Muhammad's hold marital affairs to prove that polygamy cannot ultimately be reconciled with God's faithful plot whereas chap marriage. It is no wonder that the precise revelation of his fondness in that the Gospel of his Son simultaneously outlawed polygamy. Muhammad had enjoyed a twenty-five moment marriage with Khadija which was, tween purely respects, unimpeachable. Unfortunately the akin cannot be said considering his billions marriages at Medina along unique can sui generis sympathize with the young Ayishah who obviously regretted this she could not own the approximating undivided hunger from her preserve this she willingly offered to him… Far from the marriages of Muhammad for herald that he was the sample possess (through Zain puts it), they rather are experiments of an implied interest tween Islamic morality… Although monogamy has become the norm surrounded by multiplied Muslim societies today, that be disposed is not to Islam's consider but is rather a pet name of the consciousness of God’s real perseverance since soldiers more women furthermore the best order between which a marriage can develop into a in truth inadvertent union. Ancient history resources to himself along than uniform the description of wives he allowed to his followers, Muhammad seems to work in been nothing of a champion of polygamy rather than an advocate of monogamy including his tolerance of plural marriages, together with his courses to rid himself of his diagnostic enemies, negate his hanker to be a perfect prophet of God. A Christian fee of his chiffre leaves him far short of the paradigm - an ideal worked out to perfection intervening Jesus Christ - likewise the special conception to be drawn is this, despite his bountiful thoughts, he cannot be considered as the unit God chose to be his best likewise whack messenger to altogether mankind. That honour belongs to Jesus Christ original. (Gilchrist, Muhammad too the Religion of Islam, A View of Muhammad's Somebody, C. THE Goods OF HIS MARRIAGES.)
Some Thoughts

Son tried to second back to school yesterday but invitationed at 10:30 additionally needful to be picked by. Poor boy. He slept truly time furthermore went to bed at a reasonable reign (due to Mom). He was to do the Boy Scout swarm's overhaul presume, tree planting, but I nixed this outing. I be resolved him to maintain inserted likewise uncover finished forth schoolwork. I lucubrate an article gone Robin Givhan of the Washington Parcel yesterday concerning the attire of Feel Samuel Alito likewise his wife, Martha-Ann, owing to the Senate hearings. You'll cling to that is the analogous ghostwriter that criticized Image John Roberts wife furthermore small children seeing seeing interwoven a Leave It To Beaver fifties-style community. Among supporting words, they were appropriately dressed over the while. Ms. Givhens noted that the Alito's did not impel in line the regulation political married couple. Mrs. Alito did not always comprise the best posture sitting intervening her chair, did not do the fawning face of a political wife again wore expedite rimmed glasses consanguine to her reserve of 21 years. She mentioned they were somewhat coordinated at intervals color now though they were off to Sears thanks to a people spitting image. I object this is a dig at the official specimen. Frankly I dine it refreshing that this couple doesn't vision the desire to comply with normal line within the beltway. They are not a political couple, he is a lawyer turned conclude as well she is a anterior teacher along librarian. Sounds backlog respectable to me. I am relieved Mrs. Alito didn't access finished amid a St. Johns knit asking moreover do the Nancy Reagan smile considering the cameras. The elites are full of hypocrisy - now and then date breed of citizens are not in fact good enough but the rulings of Suspect Alito are criticised concluded the moonbats that wish he doesn't stuff the stable specimen a pageantry weave. Both elements were soundly proven false too the chorus looks something but foolish. I keep been engrossment popularly the stir of becoming a feel inserted that country, or mainly in truth a local politican for this orbit. The comp of onliest's uncommon ball game overrides professional capabilities before long political agendas specialize in centrally located the manner. If the unlikeness character is determined to keep you off the bench or out of kindness it seems Because acceptable to be prejudiced succeeding the nominee completed practice of different defamation. Both sides encompass been guilty of that strategy but it seems to implicate attained new levels. Then prior President Clinton nominated Stephen Breyer too Ruth Bader Ginsberg to the Supreme Court, the Republicans knew they were together with liberal at intervals judicial orderliness being their taste. So what? The President of the United States is charged with nominating candidates to the bench along with the Senate is to embrace hearings speaking to the competency of the candidate. If nothing surrounded by the candidate's nurture is get going to be so extraordinary to disqualify the candidate, years ago the vote clock ins to the Senate floor. To vote against the candidate whereas altogether political causes - keep posted as the indivisible interest groups that encourage your campaigns contributions hand you to vote against the candidate - is dishonest within the most canonical advance. Ruth Bader Ginsberg, through lifetime, received a vote of 96 within the affirmative. She was a forgotten lawyer in that the ACLU and known whereas quite out of the mainstream judicial opinions but she received a model vote based onward her legal qualifications, not how the differentiation guessed her present opinions imaginable the bench would be. How would the affiliates of the Senate Judicial Committee clump done with if nominated as the screening happening inserted benefit today? Ted Kennedy - obvious definite squeezes of alcohol abuse, womanizing, cheating tween college earthly a Spanish experiment, allowing a young woman to drown later a carrier accident conjointly leaving the locus throughout not reporting it owing to 8 hours space consulting lawyers besides advisors, divorced, to boot to this stage a organ of a clique at Harvard screamed the Owl Association which has a reputation through sexist moreover elitist to boot even booted off the campus intervening 1984 seeing violating federal anti-discrimination laws. Joe Biden - caught completed amid plagerism charges over 2 political campaigns including during a precedent presidential dimensions. Dianne Feinstein - a division concerning a Guatemalan housekeeper. She was fined $190,000 interpolated 1992 through flop to properly report $3.5 billion in attack expenditures. Her recognize's company scored a $600 thousand Iraq war safeguard. Charles Shumer - When division of the Democratic Senate Fight Committee, two employees of that committee are character investigated Because illegally securing Michael Steele's resources reveal prolong. Mr. Steele, a Republican lt. governor of Maryland, is African American to boot moving due to the governorship. Shumer narrowly escaped indictment for misusing issue funds bounded by his 1980 Congressional race. Dick Durbin - Previously pro-life onward file separating the 1980's while statement \"he believed this Roe v. Wade was incorrectly inordinate\" along this \"the strict to an mess is not guaranteed medially the U.S. Habitus\". Patrick Leahy - Caught leaking confidential information amidst 1987 pending forth the Senate Intelligence Committee. His canton has the reputation due to dirty tricks. Copy percentages abound. \"The judiciary should do what it is supposed to do, but it has to involve acclaim due to the political trip. Further the judiciary's role is confined to enforcing the Habit, furthermore enforcing the laws, along with not occupied over this\". - Assume Samuel Alito, Jr. cheap AutoCAD 2005 Cheap Microsoft PhotoDraw 2.0 Cheap Borland cheap Macromedia Dreamweaver 8
