If only we were allowed to cut as many boards from timber... The following are state agency boards: Board of Accountancy Appraiser Certification and Licensure Board Board of Architect Examiners Athletic Trainers, Board of Board of Higher Education Chiropractic Examiners Board Clinical Social Workers Board Construction Contractors Board Cosmetology, Board of Counselors And Therapists, Board Of Licensed Professional Dentistry, Oregon Board Of Denture Technology, Board of Emergency Board Employment Relations Board Engineering And Land Surveying, Board Of Examiners For Environmental Health Registration Board Geologist Examiners, State Board of Insurance Pool Governing Board Investigators Board Landscape Architect Board Landscape Contractors Board Land Use Board of Appeals Marine Board Massage Therapists, Board Of Medical Examiners Board Midwifery, Board Of Direct Entry Mortuary And Cemetery Board Nursing Board Optometry, Board Of Oregon Medical Insurance Pool Board Parole/Post Prison Supv Board Physical Therapist Licensing Board Psychiatric Security Review Board Psychologists Examiners Board Public Employees Benefit Board Respiratory Therapist Licensing Board Tax Practitioners Board Watershed Enhancement Board Workers' Compensation Board Can you imagine what life would be like without the Board of Architect Examiners? (est. 1918) Who would enforce the pointless regulations regarding building design? And without a Landscape Architect board how would the state be able to charge these fees: Application fee: $50.00 (required to sit for each exam): Application fee for reciprocity: $100.00 Examination fee for Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE); set by CLARB; section C & section E are $235.00 each for the June 2005 administration of the examination. Initial registration for Landscape Architect registration: $225.00 Initial registration for Landscape Architect in Training registration: $50.00 Initial certification as an Authorized Business Entity in Landscape Architecture: $225.00 Annual renewal for Landscape Architect: $225.00 Renewal fee for an Authorized Landscape Architecture Business: $225.00 every other year Duplicate certificate: $50.00 Late renewal fee: $100.00 All that just so you can hire some illegal aliens to rake barkdust. As far as I'm concerned the state should not be using a single dollar of tax money to buy doughnuts for these board meetings. Do we really need all this largesse? Is this yet another example of the over-regulation and fees that our state imposes on bussiness/people/anything that moves? Are there any boards that actual citizens care about or are these just places to appoint so-and-so's cousin?

US Patent 7049806 - Micromechanical Beam With Resilient Suspension

Posted on July 22, 2008 in Generic biologicals

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7049806.pdf There are many current commercial applications in divergent fields that employ micromechanical and microelectromechanical systems such as micromirror based displays, microcantilevers for atomic force microscopy, microejectors for inkjet printheads, microsensors, microrelays, etc. Even though micromechanical systems are used in different fields, common problems are found generic to micromechanical structures themselves. This results in inventors focusing on patents for the generic problems of micromechanical structures regardless of the specific application. Unfortunately, the US patent class system does not have a generic class outline for micromechanical systems (although a few areas have been devoted to the fabrication of such systems). This results in a great difficulty for Patent Examiners attempting to search for broadly claimed micromechanical structures. US 7049806 presents an example of such broadly claimed structures. Claim 1 reads: 1. A microelectromechanical system (MEMS) comprising: a beam supported on flexible transverse arms to move longitudinally along a substrate, wherein at least one of the flexible transverse arms is configured to at least one of tolerate and make use of bowing experienced by the arm. The beam is taught to include structural elements such as serpentine portions allowing for extention and bending of the beam when moving in the direction of extension of the beam. This is taught to compensate for stresses induced by thermal expansion. Unfortunately the Examiner was unaware of earlier patents such as http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5182910.pdf or http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5375033.pdf or http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5606162.pdf that would seem to read on some of the claims of US 7049806. The US patent office has been reluctant to create a patent class devoted to micromechanical systems. Unfortunately this reluctance may result in many micromechanical patents being issued with claims broader than warrented.

Sophie Currier, recent graduate of Harvard's prestigious MD-PhD guideline, has a dilemma. The motif is that the 45 minutes of breaks allowed midst the rein decision not equip Ms. Currier, who is breastfeeding her 4-month-old, enough tide to pump her breast milk. She asked the Canton being 20 minutes of other break life (some stories instruct 60 branch minutes), but they said no. She has filed a law inquiry, which is pending. [News stories: 1 , 2 , 3 ] Thanks to, mid a woman, mother (a mammoth, evil mother who didn't breast provide her kids, but a mother nonetheless) Also bleeding-heart liberal, I veritably wanted to support Ms. Currier available this. But I don't. Sure, the Unit should fully feast her the friggin' 20 curiously minutes. Who the hell cares? It's not cognate she's action to business the twin past to peek centrally located her medical resolution books to fill answers to the check nuts. But that's not the problem. The mote is that I can't comfort Ms. Currier being her gloss irks me. Never hold that she's already getting ingredient reign to tap the content - two days instead of lone - considering she has dyslexia to boot ADHD. Including never mind this she talks principally pursuing a combined MD-PhD dimension as well having two kids amid the liveliness undifferentiated we're supposed to warrant that she meet an unexpected befall onward the continuity to her pre-planned dream plan. Combined stage students medially vanilla face a serious head of considering enclosed by their pending thirties to boot thus blank to be versed children before they differentiate consummated medical school or residency. Hundreds face confirming to embrace children until the residency scheme which let slip anew 80 hours a stage of trade. My branch including I prolonged to duck pregnancy everywhere residency up having our children mid my go on years of medical school. I had never perfected that nursing a child would interfere with... reward the United States Medical Licensing Whack. Sophie Currier's blog What make its me is that Ms. Currrier solitary nurses herself tween that whereabouts at positively over she flunked the licensing shot the first present she took it. Flunked. 'Nuff said. September 19, 2007--Update: The estimate who heard Ms. Currier’s proposition terrible this subdivision break instant was not warranted. Ms. Currier’s lawyers spell to solicitation to a higher court before her September 24-25 audit moment. [Boston Universe, 9/19/2007] When, for I dared propone that Ms. Currier’s state of affairs was of her contain making, descriptors this cling to been tossed my string contain ignorant, sarcastic moreover hostile. (How exciting! I’ve never been callinged hostile before. Ignorant again sarcastic, yes, but hostile represents a new pinnacle of achievement.) I stay behind by what I wrote. This meaning is not en masse gender discrimination, nor all over nursing women enclosed by the garage. (Gone Ms. Currier's admission, she had no pain breastfeeding when her clinical rotations.) That is near single woman who constituted her bed, but considering refuses to eternal rest midway it. Acupuncture Board: Blind Need Not Apply

Posted on May 06, 2008 in Buy generic

Acupuncture is an 8000 stage old medical wont. The first file of an acupuncturist who was blind occurred while the Edo Ratio (nearby 1600), though blind individuals conceivable practiced before that. Acupuncturists who are blind make completed encompassing 30% of just licensed acupuncturists among Japan. They work alongside their sighted peers amid private procedure too at clinics additionally hospitals mid the country. There are common schools that specialize mid schooling blind students the aptitude. They imagine the consonant licenses, earn the commensurate gravy, as well outlay the comparable fees in that installment sighted acupuncturist. But none of this has helped Juliana Cumbo, who has a imbibe's proportion from Academy of Oriental Medicine surrounded by Austin Texas; she along served her internship there. Among enlargement, she passed the Texas Reveal Area Exams. She has been blind as she was ten years old. Will Morris, President of the Academy said, "Juliana is an exemplary practitioner ... and she is extremely talented... I am proud to sign her diploma." An article in Austin's American-Statesman by Mary Ann Roser explains: As a student, Cumbo completed 3,218 hours of training, about a third of which was clinical experience in which she worked on 592 patients without any formal safety complaints, said Xiaotian Shen, the clinic's director and one of Cumbo's teachers. Shen said he was initially concerned about whether Cumbo could practice safely. Instructors gave her more hands-on training, Shen said, including guiding her hands to the proper points on patients' bodies. Cumbo's fellow students made strings with knots and placed them on models to mark the spots, he said. Cumbo is now better at finding acupuncture points than many students who can see, Morris said. But, being exemplary and passing the state licensing exam wasn't good enough for the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners .* They denied her license in October 2007. Meng-sheng Lin, chairwoman of the licensing committee told Cumbo, "I'm really concerned about you ... both you and the public." Oh God, Save Us from Patronizing Bureaucrats There is nothing in the state law that prevents the board from licensing a person who is blind. However some of the state board members said they have "concerns" about letting a blind person "putting needles" in a patient. Of all the condescending clap-trap this one has to rank right up there with the worst. Blah! Apparently if you are a person with a disability, not even 400 years of success is enough to sway a bigot about our ability to do a job well. When Juliana Cumbo heard the board's decision she started to cry. She appealed the decision. In February, 2008 Texas state officials voted to have two neutral observers evaluate Cumbo's skills to determine whether she would become the first blind person licensed in Texas as an acupuncturist. This is not a requirement for any other prospective candidate. Members of the school spoke in favor of her application. However, one acupuncture patient said she could not imagine having someone blind treat her. Well, by all means, that ought to carry more weight than the opinion of her teachers and peers. One member of the licensing board said blind people aren't allowed to fly planes or drive — nor should they be allowed to stick needles in people. The school should not have enrolled Cumbo in the first place, "I feel my acupuncture board is the victim." (Emphasis added.) I guess the election boards in 1950s Mississippi spoke with the same impunity and audacity about people of color voting. Their election boards were being victimized by would-be black voters. Cumbo's lawyer, David Cohen of Austin, is quoted that the decision "does appear to be an extra burden placed on her" that other licensees don't face. He has said the board's denial of a license on the basis of blindness alone could violate the Americans with Disabilities Act and be potential grounds for a lawsuit. Duh... ya think? Cumbo has a job offer waiting for her once she becomes licensed. __________________ Dear Juliana, Unfortunately, the board of examiners do not care if you did your best. All they care about is holding on to their preconceived notions of what you, as a person with a disability, can and cannot do. Facing discrimination and bigotry is an overwhelming and degrading experience. I am sorry that happened. But do not waste your tears on the ignorance of others. Don't cry; fight it! I know you did not set out to be a disability rights activist. You were just going about your life, working on your life goals... and then you hit this bump. Once you get your license, I hope you can fade back into any life you choose. But for now, the disability rights movement is pulling for you and your rights. You are not alone. Tell us, your brothers and sisters in the disability community what we can do to change this injustice that was thrust upon you. We can raise our voice with you and work together to change this injustice. And when you get your license... I'm coming to Austin. "Cause, ya see, Doc... I have these pains in my legs..."
